Garden in january
In January, parts of the country are still covered in snow, with cold nights or wet days. Therefore, there is not much you can do in the garden just yet, except to use the snow as insulation against the cold in your perennial flowerbeds, for example.
Does it snow a lot where you live? Then be sure to carefully sweep or clear away large amounts of snow from bushes and tree branches, so that they don’t crack under the weight of snow. The moisture this time of year also makes your grass fragile, so try to avoid walking too much on the lawn and pressing down the snow.
Give birds food
Frozen ground and snow-covered trees and shrubs make it difficult for our small birds to find food. Help them by placing bird feeders and birdhouses in your garden, and fill them with birdseed or peanut butter and tallow. You can also hang nutritious tallow balls in the trees – the birds will thank you.
